Once upon a time, a company’s purpose went only as far as the mission statement. In the battle to win and retain talent in tech, companies are scrambling to cater to the current wants, needs, and expectations of the workforce. Many are staking a claim to running a purpose-driven, people-driven organization, but those who don’t galvanize purpose into the company’s everyday functions are easily exposed as pretenders, sniffed out swiftly by savvy Millennial and Gen Z talent. They want coaches, not bosses. They want conversations, not reviews. In this session, we will explore ways to elevate purpose beyond the mission statement to make it a fluid, breathing thing that lives in the office, motivating the workforce. We will demonstrate how connecting purpose to profit can future-proof tech organizations against the loss of talent, in order to compete in an unpredictable industry.

Key takeaways include:

- Hear how a diverse, growing company has successfully become an Inc., Digiday, Crain's NY and Forbes Best Place to Work mainstay by baking purpose into its DNA

- Hear real-world best practices to future proof your leadership skills, including how to handle growth opportunities through reviews processes and coaching managers to give development-focused feedback

- Find out ways to manage more as a coach than a boss who fixates more on strengths than weaknesses; and communicates clear expectations

- Get insight into the trending mindset: People are no longer pursuing job satisfaction per se; they are pursuing development

- Discover methods to create an authentically purposeful mindset, and processes to connect purpose to profits

One of the biggest issues with diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in the workplace is that there has been a lack of technology support or tools that help people move out of the ‘classroom’ and take our learned skills out into our everyday. Diversity technology is new, fast growing and highly fragmented, however, there are starting to be products out there that have the potential to help, but how can organizations be sure that AI powered solutions won't add to the problem?

Key takeaways include:

- What is unconscious bias and how does it affect workplaces?

- Overview of the DivTech market and how technologies are helping in some areas

- The potential for AI technologies to make a difference and the risks of AI bias

The Established Hierarchy: We often look at oppression and privilege for our own perspective. Is there a hierarchy and does intersectionality change the game?

Innovation and Diversity: An examination on how innovation and inclusion are tightly linked. Why putting people in the heart of technology will accelerate results.

Authenticity and Case Studies: A look at some examples of how authenticity impacts corporate America.

Key takeaways include:

- Recognize that a system of privilege exists and we all contribute to it. Insights into changing our mentality away from competition and more towards collaboration.

- Understand the value of being vulnerable and open to sharing personal experiences at work in order to develop trust-based relationships. People advocate and sponsor those who they know and understand.

- Make an intentional effort to build a network while recognizing your own bias and microaggressions. It seems like common sense, but try not to focus on controlling what other people do, and focus your effort on controlling what you do.

- Go outside your comfort zone, empathize and redefine your circle. How we treat people outside of our circle will be the value to which we are measured. Empowering people is not a social responsibility – it should be embedded into our DNA.

The more evidence you have, the more likely your ideas are to take hold; this is something that all of us have been conditioned to believe. In today's world, as the sheer volume of data continues to grow, and terms like 'big data' and 'IoT' become ubiquitous, ever more functions, roles and decisions are expected to be 'data-driven'. But how we communicate insights from data can be as (or more!) important as the data itself if we want to create real impact. In this session, you'll hear about some of the techniques used to tell compelling stories with data, and how that can impact your influence with internal and external stakeholders.

Key takeaways include:

- Understanding of how to approach and structure data 'stories'

- Tips for using data storytelling to gain both internal and external credibility

- Real examples from data analytics

- Skills you can apply in your own field to tell great stories with data

Understanding the future of banking technology regulation and the impact to our industry. How banks will be required to respond with increased regulation in cybersecurity and evolving technology; is technology moving too fast for regulation to keep up? The RegTech sector works to reduce financial risk, increase regulatory compliance and stamp out laundering and fraud — all of which contribute to an estimated $2 trillion yearly loss for the global economy. Will RegTech cement itself as its own major industry? What are the impacts of GDPR on the East Coast for international organizations?

Key takeaways include:

- Understand the new role of regulatory technology

- Understand the shifting focus from transaction monitoring and records retention to data protection

The technology industry increasingly finds itself at a competitive crossroads. More than one million jobs are forecast to remain unfilled by 2020, while leading brands come under assault for a lack of diversity amidst their ranks. But how to do this effectively? Tracey Welson-Rossman, technology industry veteran and founder of nonprofit TechGirlz, shares lessons for building The Path that will help more women embrace and succeed in technology careers.

Key takeaways include:
- Learn the most up-to-date figures on the state of America’s tech workforce in the context of today’s workforce shortage.

To fully realize digital transformation at scale, however, deeply savvy technologists who understand emerging technologies, agile product development, data engineering, scalability and security must be part of design and business planning from the very beginning.  And with data and software an increasingly pervasive part of every aspect of business, a substantial part of IT’s future role in corporations will change.

Key takeaways include:

- What are the unique skills and perspectives that IT brings to digital transformation?

- What are some of the key changes that corporate IT must make?

Algorithms are increasingly influencing hiring, promotion, retention, and compensation. These proprietary black boxes are being used to screen candidates, evaluate performance, and determine many aspects of employment including creditworthiness,  trustworthiness, fitness, leadership, and more. Many of these algorithms are being used unknowingly by companies who retain recruiters and executive search agents or use HR software with seemingly "safe" services such as engagement assessments. Unfortunately, there is growing evidence that many of these algorithms are developed at least in part by people who do not fully understand the inherent biases or the consequences. Research is just now beginning to suggest that bias amplification is occurring as most systems rely in information from other systems. Not using algorithms is no longer an option for most organizations.

So, you have been told to build a diverse pipeline, but how are you going to get there?  Most companies embrace the idea of diversity but few are doing something to make it happen.  To build a diverse pipeline we must start by changing our corporate mindset.  The number of diverse candidates is small, so we need to get creative where we look for them, and how we go about attracting them to our organizations.  We can’t continue to pay less and promote fewer diverse candidates and expect the market not to notice.  A strong diverse pipeline starts with change from within.  This session looks at practical ways to evaluate how your organization stacks up, what change is needed, and where you can go to find untapped pools of diverse talent.
